Martin Dorey, known as ‘The Camper Van Cook’, has written 2 books (‘The Camper Van Cookbook’ and ‘Campervan Coast’) and presented the BBC 2 series ‘One man and his Campervan’. We enjoyed the series and love his books, they are full of great recipes and Campervan Coast has some really lovely, helpful ideas and advice on how to make the best of taking your campervan to the coast in all seasons.
We are really excited to be involved in his next book due out next Spring. We spent last Friday at a photoshoot for the book with our new 2016 Ultra Slidepod. The new pod has the bonus of harder wearing edge trim. A removable cutlery roll, new lighting and a table which can be attached to the pod or used inside the van with the right fixing. We are so please with how it looks, and we think Martin was too!
Here are a few sneaky peak photos we took of Martin Dorey photographing our van! Hopefully we will have the professional ones through soon too. In the meantime have a look at these…
Slidepods overnight in Exmouth. Exmouth is one of our favourite places in Devon with its huge long sandy beach and family friendly atmosphere. We often come for the day to take the dog for a walk, go bowling or in the summer we love to treat ourselves to a meal at the amazing River Exe Cafe. Yesterday, we decided it was such a beautiful day that once Jonny had finished pod building we would head over to Exmouth for dinner on the Sea front (Lamb curry cooked from the brilliant ‘Camper van Coast’ book by Martin Dorey), a few beers and stay overnight. Exmouth seafront must be one of the few places in the country you are allowed to do this!
We arrived set up and started cooking on our new 2016 Ultrapod as the sun started to go down.
It was a stunning view to relax with. We loved cooking on the new 2016 Ultrapod, the addition of the extra large inside space, cutlery roll, lighting and table made cooking on the Ultrapod even more easy and enjoyable. We used our new pan set which all fits inside each other as a great space saving solution, nothing stuck to the pans and nothing burnt! We had a great nights sleep and woke up to just as impressive a sun rise…
A beautiful clear morning spent playing on the beach, drinking coffee, shooting the breeze with friends and watching the horses galloping along the beach, what a great start to the weekend! Washing up was super easy and mess free with the addition of our new draining board, draining down our pods integrated waste water tank was also clean and efficient with our extra waste water tank with hose connector – no mess left behind!
Slidepods are really excited to be working with Sails & Canvas to produce a range of accessories for your campervans. Products are in the development stage currently so keep your eyes peeled to our facebook page and this Blog page for all the latest updates. Sails & Canvas are a fabulous company local to us based in Topsham, Devon. They have similar values and believe in producing great work with quality products. They are makers of handmade, recycled sailcloth products, made from sails that have passed their ‘sail by date’! They also do sail valeting, sail repairs and bespoke canvas and cover work. We believe the materials they use are perfect for camper accessories as they are, tough, heard wearing, wipe clean and washable whilst looking great.
One of the first products to be produced is a Porta Potti cover, available in wide range of colours so allowing you to discretely store your Porta Potti in your van. Pictures will be available within the next 2 weeks…. In the mean time here are a few pictures of Ronnie – our Slidepods van (and Jane and Esme) in Topsham…
Its was a beautiful Thursday afternoon and with an evening of house cleaning and cooking dinner beckoning, when Jonny suggested heading out for a night in the van to Salcombe in the South Hams we all jumped at the idea. We grabbed a change of clothes for the morning, picked up some food to cook on the pod and threw the sleeping bags into Ronnie (our Slidespods T5 Caravelle with The Ultra pod) and we were ready for the off.
We drove down through the stunning South Hams to Hope cove where we discovered Bolberry House Farm campsite, a beautifully kept campsite in the rolling hills between Hope Cove and Salcombe. There were glorious views towards the ocean and a great site with loads of grassy play area for our son to run free safely.
Food was eaten, prosecco drunk, parents relaxed and children played
It was a little breezy up on this costal site, not a problem for The ultra campervan pod, we just attach our windbreak and we are ready to cook.
What a great evening……until……bedtime!! Over excited child, beautiful sunset and sleep are not an ideal combination so huge apologies to all those staying on the site that evening because I am sure it was not only us who had a terrible nights sleep!
Just time the following morning to indulge in a very necessary cup of coffee before the early dash back to get our son to nursery and us to work. Despite a night of disturbed sleep, being able to pack the van up in under 20mins and get out to such a beautiful spot for a lovely relaxed fun evening with the family is priceless. Bring on our next adventure.
In this blog we will be updating you about latest Slidepods information as well as sharing our own travels and experiences with Ronnie our Slidepods van. In Ronnie with have The Ultra Slidepods Campervan pod, we love it and take it everywhere with us allowing our T5 Caravelle to become a versatile campervan.
